Upcoming Event: Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Mural
July 11, 2023
A new mural brings bold and inspiring energy to the west. Ribbon cutting ceremony at 2:00pm on July 21st at Four Squares headquarters located at 364 W Princess St, York, PA 17401.
With its vibrant colors and larger-than-life smiles, this stunning new mural is a landmark in York City.
This mural serves as a symbol of our commitment to uplift the next generation and celebrate their boundless potential. It is our hope that everyone, especially the young people of color, experience this mural as a gift of optimism and inspiration.
It is our intention to make public art the center of our revitalization projects because we believe it plays a vital role in cultivating a strong and connected community. You’ve probably heard the words “placemaking” and “placekeeping” before. These ideas are about creating destinations. For us, this means partnering with community members and organizations to reimagine our historically neglected neighborhoods and to create an experience that ignites the imaginations of both residents and visitors, all while mindfully maintaining the cultural character of our neighborhoods. In our experience, when we listen and collaborate with the community, they learn to trust their voices and they develop a sense of ownership and confidence in what can be accomplished.
We don’t want to waste any opportunity to instill confidence in our youth. We want them to trust in their abilities and to create the life they want, and we hope this mural encourages them to dream BIG.
The children in this mural live in York City and are part of The Advantage Program, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating opportunities for kids by exposing them to different places, activities, and events. We love the energy this mural brings to the west side. We are so appreciative of all the individuals and organizations who contributed to its success, especially the talented artists, Sharnee and Jucintha, of Sprocket Mural Works, who worked 13-hour days to complete the mural in less than a week. We also want to thank the Powder Mill Foundation, The Parliament Arts Organization, the Tolbert family, Lisa Fast, and Royal Square Development & Construction for working with us to ensure the artists had everything they needed to bring this bold mural to life. We hope you can join us on July 21st at 2:00pm for the ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate this beautiful new mural and meet the artists, the children, and their families.
